FOX Business Journalist Eleanor Terrett dismisses rumors of SEC dropping appeal against Ripple
On February 24, the SEC Crypto Task Force convened with legal experts to delve into the complexities of crypto regulation. During the meeting, legal experts Jason Gottlieb, Andrew Hinkes, and J.W. Verret presented an analysis focusing on the Ripple case. The document scrutinized the SEC’s allegations regarding certain cryptocurrencies being deemed securities without concrete judicial validation.
Specifically, the document underscored the skepticism surrounding the SEC’s stance on crypto-related secondary market transactions, as evidenced in the ongoing Ripple lawsuit. It cited Judge Torres’ ruling in the case, which emphasized the ambiguity surrounding the classification of transactions involving XRP.
Ripple Ruling in SEC Meeting
With the Ripple case taking center stage in the SEC meeting, speculation arose within the XRP community suggesting that the SEC might be contemplating dropping the lawsuit. However, FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett swiftly refuted these rumors, asserting that there is no truth to the claims.
Terrett’s response, accompanied by a facepalm emoji on Twitter, highlighted her frustration with the baseless speculation surrounding the potential dismissal of the Ripple case.
Status of SEC v. Ripple Case
As of now, there is no concrete evidence suggesting that the SEC is considering dropping its appeal against Ripple. Despite the SEC halting or dismissing similar lawsuits, the outcome of the Ripple case remains uncertain. Legal experts within the crypto industry acknowledge the complexity of the case, particularly in light of Judge Torres’ ruling.
Judge Torres previously found Ripple guilty of violating federal securities laws by offering XRP to institutional investors as unregistered investment contracts. This led to an injunction against Ripple’s future institutional sales and a hefty fine of $125 million. Any decision to dismiss the appeal would require cooperation with Judge Torres, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal battle.
