The Rise and Fall of Crypto Power Couple: Adam Iza and Iris Ramaya Au
Iris Ramaya Au, the ex-girlfriend of crypto entrepreneur Adam Iza, known as “The Godfather,” has agreed to plead guilty to federal tax charges.
Admission of Guilt
In a plea filed Tuesday, Au, 35, confessed to failing to report over $2.6 million in “ill-gotten gains” from her ex-boyfriend’s criminal operations. This admission could lead to up to three years in federal prison for her role in facilitating Iza’s fraudulent activities.
Lavish Lifestyle Unveiled
From 2020 to 2023, Au and Iza indulged in a lavish lifestyle funded by illicit means, including luxury cars, real estate, and cryptocurrency. Au funneled illicit funds into personal accounts without reporting the income to the IRS, all while being aware of the funds’ tainted origins.
The Downfall of The Godfather
In September 2024, Iza was arrested and charged with conspiracy, wire fraud, and tax evasion, stemming from a series of criminal activities over several years. The couple allegedly spent millions on luxury activities, with Iza acquiring $16 million in crypto using fraudulent funds.
A Trail of Deception
Iza’s criminal activities reached new heights as he utilized his platform, Zort, to commit large-scale fraud, including defrauding Meta of $37 million. He also engaged in violent acts, such as a failed home invasion in 2022 and impersonating the FBI to steal crypto at gunpoint in 2018.
Collaboration with Law Enforcement
In his plea, Iza admitted to enlisting off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies to harass rivals and fabricate search warrants. Deputy Eric Chase Saavedra faces charges for aiding Iza in intimidating victims and misusing confidential law enforcement data.
Facing the Consequences
Iza faces up to 35 years in prison for extortion, fraud, and abuse of power. Au, who assisted in laundering proceeds, will cooperate with authorities and face sentencing alongside Iza. Their hearing is scheduled for June 16.
