Sony’s Blockchain Division Partners with LINE to Bring Mini-Apps to Soneium Network
Sony’s blockchain division is making waves in the web3 world by teaming up with Japanese social media giant LINE. The partnership will see several popular mini-apps from LINE being adapted onto Sony’s Soeneium network, the company revealed in an announcement on Wednesday.
With approximately 200 million active users on its platform, LINE is a powerhouse in the social media space. The collaboration will see four LINE-based games, or “mini-apps,” being integrated into Soneium: Sleepagotchi, Farm Frens, Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob. This move is aimed at enhancing features like in-game rewards and purchases for users.
Soneium is overseen by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint venture between Sony and Singapore-based Startale Labs. The partnership with LINE is seen as a strategic move to break down barriers and make web3 more accessible to users. According to a statement shared with CoinDesk, the goal is to allow users to experience the benefits of web3 seamlessly.
Sony Block Solutions Labs’ Chairman Comments on the Collaboration
“LINE has established a strong presence in the market, and the integration of successful mini-apps into the Soneium ecosystem is a significant milestone,” said Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs. “We believe that this collaboration will drive engagement and adoption in ways that were previously challenging to achieve.”
Launched in January, Soneium aims to bridge the gap between web2 and web3 users. The blockchain operates as a layer-2 solution built on top of Ethereum, utilizing Optimism’s OP Stack technology. As of now, Soneium is ranked as the 15th largest layer-2 network by total value locked, as reported by L2 Beat.
