SEGA’s Code of Joker game series is making its way to the gaming-focused L1 blockchain Sui through a new game.
Through a licensing agreement, SEGA has entrusted the development of the upcoming title to the third-party firm Jokers, Inc.
The new game, titled Code of Joker: Evolutions, is based on the popular Japanese anime-style arcade IP. Players will have the opportunity to open card packs and collect cards onchain as Sui NFTs.
“We aimed to replicate the excitement of opening a physical card pack in our digital game,” stated Takashi “Gin” Mizouka, cofounder of Jokers Inc.

While Sonic the Hedgehog, an iconic character from SEGA, appears in previous Code of Joker gameplay footage, it is unlikely that he will appear in Code of Joker: Evolutions.
Although Mysten Labs did not confirm Sonic’s presence in the new game, SEGA’s stance on licensing its major IPs for third-party blockchain games remains unchanged. SEGA has also stated that it will not develop its own crypto games internally.

Despite this, SEGA is open to licensing other game brands for blockchain adaptations. In the past, SEGA licensed the Sangokushi Taisen brand for a blockchain military card battle game on Oasys, developed by Double Jump Tokyo.
Interestingly, the game is set to launch on March 25, and players can now preorder Battle of Three Kingdoms on iOS and Android. The game features NFT cards and mentions staking the game’s SGC token on its website.
Code of Joker, originally released in 2013, may not have garnered much attention in English-speaking markets. However, the intricate character art and gameplay mechanics could appeal to existing fans of the series.
As for the release of Code of Joker: Evolutions in English, the development team has not yet provided details on this aspect. The game is expected to launch at the end of summer for iOS, Android, and as a web version.
