A New Layer-1 Blockchain Offering Privacy and Accessibility for Miners
A new layer-1 blockchain focused on privacy and mining accessibility is now live with the launch of Tari mainnet. Led by a group of former Monero developers, Tari’s mainnet follows the network’s testnet launch in September 2024, placing it in a crowded field of layer-1 networks that includes heavyweights like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. But the developers see Tari differently than the pack.
Privacy and Accessibility at the Core of Tari
“Our hot take: Existing chains are missing key ingredients needed for them to succeed in becoming the foundation for a new global financial system,” said Tari contributor Naveen Jain. He cited the difficult onboarding process and “1984-level surveillance systems” present in other networks.
Tari aims to address these shortcomings by providing the easiest onboarding experience in crypto, requiring just three steps to become an on-chain user. The network also prioritizes confidentiality by default, automatically hiding transaction amounts and the addresses of the sender and receiver on-chain.
Enhancing User Safety and Freedom
“By keeping transactions and balances confidential, users are kept safe,” Jain explained. “No third party can monitor, profile, or track their financial behavior, ensuring a world-class user experience in terms of safety and freedom.”
Blockchain transparency, while often lauded, can also pose risks if account balances are publicly available, potentially attracting malicious actors. Tari’s default confidentiality aims to mitigate these risks and provide users with a secure financial environment.
Growing Adoption and Participation
Since its testnet launch, Tari has seen significant traction, with over 700,000 participants in its airdrop program and nearly 100,000 testnet miners using the Tari Universe app. This app, available on Mac and Windows, enables users to participate in the proof-of-work mining process.
On the mainnet launch day, users can mine via Tari Universe, transact with the network’s native XTM token, and earn rewards by inviting others to join. The future vision for the Tari ecosystem includes a diverse range of decentralized protocols and applications.
Empowering Users and Rewarding Security
“The goal of the Tari network is to reward users who contribute to securing the network, promoting genuine engagement over bot activity or airdrop farming,” Jain emphasized. “Users should be able to live anonymously and freely within the financial system, without the surveillance seen in dystopian fiction.”
As the Tari miner base expands and new features are introduced, developers are encouraged to build innovative applications on Tari. The network aims to offer a distinct user experience that prioritizes privacy, security, and individual empowerment.
