BOB, a Bitcoin DeFi project, has recently secured $21 million in funding through various rounds to propel its hybrid blockchain technology that merges Bitcoin’s renowned security features with Ethereum’s decentralized finance capabilities.
In a recent press release shared with the crypto community, BOB proudly announced the successful completion of multiple funding rounds since December 2024, culminating in a substantial $9.5 million strategic round. This latest funding round not only saw increased support from existing investors but also welcomed new backers to the BOB ecosystem.
The initial $10 million seed round was led by Castle Island Ventures, with additional contributions from prominent names such as Ledger, RockawayX, Asymmetric, IOSG Ventures, UTXO Management, Daedalus, CMS, Bankless Ventures, Hypersphere, Alliance, and Sigil/Zeeprime. Notably, Castle Island Ventures doubled down on its investment, highlighting the confidence in BOB’s vision.
Joining this recent funding round as strategic investors are Anchorage, Amber Group, and Sats Ventures, further bolstering BOB’s financial backing. Prior to this, BOB had also raised $1.6 million through an angel investor round, showcasing the growing interest and support for the project.
Alexei Zamyatin, BOB Co-Founder and BitVM Core Contributor, expressed his excitement about the continued partnership and support from investors, emphasizing the team’s dedication to defining Bitcoin’s pivotal role in the DeFi sector. The unique Hybrid model developed by BOB aims to harness the strengths of both Bitcoin and Ethereum, paving the way for innovative use cases and tapping into the vast $750 billion opportunity in Bitcoin DeFi.
The raised funds will be instrumental in accelerating the development of BOB’s hybrid blockchain, which is designed to offer a seamless integration of Bitcoin’s security features with Ethereum’s DeFi functionalities. By utilizing staked Bitcoin worth billions of dollars to secure transactions and assets within its ecosystem, BOB eliminates the need for wrapped tokens or custodians, providing users with direct access to native BTC.
BOB has achieved significant milestones in its journey, including the successful launch of a native Bitcoin DeFi testnet, supported by industry leaders such as Lombard, Amber Digital, and RockawayX. This testnet will pave the way for the seamless integration of native BTC within BOB’s extensive Bitcoin DeFi ecosystem once it transitions to the mainnet.
Additionally, BOB has made waves by becoming the first hybrid zk-rollup, combining the security and finality of optimistic rollups with the efficiency of zero-knowledge proofs to enhance transaction speed and reduce costs. The recent integration with Fireblocks further strengthens BOB’s institutional access by leveraging Fireblocks’ secure wallet technology alongside BOB’s robust network.
As BOB continues to push the boundaries of Bitcoin DeFi innovation, the project remains committed to redefining the role of Bitcoin in the decentralized finance space and unlocking new possibilities for users and institutions alike.
