My life took an unexpected turn on a jetlagged morning in Las Vegas, where I found myself at the Bitcoin Conference seeking something more profound than the routine of fundraising. As a seasoned consultant and ex-Deloitte employee with a background in nonprofit work, I was craving a sense of purpose beyond just raising money.
To my surprise, the energy of the conference quickly captivated me. On my first day, I volunteered at the Open Source Hub, where I had the opportunity to connect with innovative projects like Primal and witness the impact of Nostr on Latin American circular economies. It was a refreshing change from the monotony of traditional fundraising efforts.
During my second day at the conference, I stumbled upon a booth selling children’s books and merchandise and struck up a conversation with Fernando Motolese, the founder of Bitcoinze. This chance encounter led me to Valentin Popescu from MOTIV PERÚ, who opened my eyes to the transformative power of Bitcoin in underserved communities in Latin America.
Having previously worked in Peru with marginalized communities, I understood the challenges they faced in accessing financial tools and resources. Valentin’s work with Motiv Perú showcased how Bitcoin could be a catalyst for change, empowering individuals to earn, save, and transact in a more sustainable way.
Motiv Perú’s innovative approach to financial education and the establishment of bitcoin circular economies in Peru are reshaping the narrative of financial inclusion in the region. By leveraging Bitcoin as a tool for economic empowerment, the organization is enabling communities to envision a future where they can thrive and build a better life for themselves.
From initiatives like the Life Saving Steps project to the Surf for All program, Motiv Perú is demonstrating how grassroots efforts, coupled with Bitcoin adoption, can bring about meaningful change in the lives of those who have been historically excluded from traditional financial systems.
As an ambassador for Motiv Perú, I am now involved in organizing the “Bitcoin Cup,” a surf competition that celebrates Bitcoin adoption and the circular economies that are transforming communities in Huanchaco, Peru. This is just the beginning of a larger story that is unfolding in places where traditional banks have overlooked but where Bitcoin is providing new opportunities and hope for a brighter future.
The journey with Motiv Perú has been nothing short of transformative, and I am excited to continue supporting their mission of empowering communities through Bitcoin education and financial empowerment. Join us as we write the next chapter of this inspiring story of change and resilience.
