Crypto protocols continue to attract significant funding in the month of August, with a total of $1.9 billion raised according to data from DefiLlama. While this represents a 30% decrease from July’s total of $2.67 billion, the sector remains robust with continued interest from venture capital funds.
One notable raise in August was the $600 million captured from PUMP’s public sale, which aligns closely with the numbers recorded in July. DeFi protocols led the way in funding, with major raises from companies like Portal, M0, and aPriori. Institutional capital also flowed consistently into the sector, particularly in infrastructure and trading platforms.
The third quarter of the year has already surpassed the totals from the second quarter, with a total of $4.57 billion raised in just two months. This demonstrates the sustained growth and interest in the crypto space.
AI protocols were a significant recipient of funding in August, with Everlyn raising $15 million and several AI-focused projects completing seed rounds. The convergence of crypto and AI continues to attract venture interest as protocols develop decentralized computing and data solutions. Cybersecurity also emerged as a major category, with IVIX completing a $60 million Series B round.
Stablecoin infrastructure drew capital as well, with Rain securing $58 million in Series B funding. Payment infrastructure also saw diverse funding, with companies like OrangeX completing a $20 million Series B round. Gaming protocols received attention too, with projects like Overtake securing funding for continued development.
Public token sales saw a decrease in activity in August, with only $30.7 million raised across seven projects. However, layer-2 solutions secured strategic investments, with companies like Bitlayer and Hemi Labs raising significant amounts through public token sales and growth rounds.
Overall, the third quarter of the year has shown sustained institutional interest in the crypto space, despite monthly fluctuations. The sector continues to see strong funding across various categories, indicating a healthy and growing ecosystem.
