A new era of gaming is on the horizon with the upcoming release of KAI: Battle of the Three Kingdoms, a crypto-infused twist on Sega’s beloved IP Sangokushi Taisen. Developed by Double Jump Tokyo, this strategic card battler is set to launch on Wednesday, April 30, with early access available on both PC and mobile platforms.
Leading up to the launch, a special three-hour PC browser-only "load test" will be held on Monday, April 28 to ensure a smooth gaming experience. Although player data from the load test will not carry over to the full game, it will provide a glimpse of what’s to come for eager players.
The anticipation for KAI: Battle of Three Kingdoms has been building since pre-registrations went live in early March, with over a million players expressing interest in the game. This modern reimagining of Sega’s arcade series will be available in English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese languages, catering to a global audience.
One of the most intriguing aspects of KAI: Battle of Three Kingdoms is its integration with the Oasys gaming blockchain. Special cards known as "Awakened Warlords" will be minted as NFTs, allowing players to trade them freely on the open market. These cards will play a central role in the game, each possessing unique skills that are essential for strategic gameplay.
In addition, a new SGC token will be introduced for obtaining card packs, earning through leaderboard placements, and staking to earn points for endgame features like championship events and tournament modes. This innovative approach to blockchain gaming sets KAI: Battle of Three Kingdoms apart from traditional card battlers.
While Sega has been exploring the world of crypto through licensing its IPs, including Sangokushi Taisen on Oasys and the recent Code of Joker for the Sui network, the company remains cautious about its biggest franchises entering the blockchain space. Sega’s co-COO, Shuji Utsumi, expressed interest in the potential of NFTs to enhance the gaming experience but emphasized the importance of preserving the brand value of iconic characters like Sonic the Hedgehog.
As the countdown to the launch of KAI: Battle of Three Kingdoms continues, players can look forward to a unique gaming experience that combines strategy, blockchain technology, and the rich history of the Three Kingdoms era. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new release!
