OverTrip, a vibrant third-person battle royale shooter, has officially launched on PC via the Epic Games Store, signaling the commencement of its third in-game content season. The latest addition to the game is the introduction of a “skill mode” where players can bet real money on their performance, including the utilization of the game’s newly launched meme coin.
The game operates as a multi-chain project, with its token debuting on Solana, NFTs being minted on the Ethereum mainnet, and plans in place to expand on the Ethereum layer-2 network Soneium, a platform developed by Sony in collaboration with Startale.
Recently, OverTrip introduced its Solana token TRIP through Pump.fun on November 30. This token serves as a means to purchase and trade in-game skins, distributed to players through various schemes, and powers the game’s innovative “skill mode.” Despite experiencing a 23% decline in value for the day, TRIP currently boasts a market cap of $5.5 million.
The newly implemented feature enables players to wager on their performance in matches, with bets ranging from $0.10 to $0.99 on achieving a top-three placement. Successful bets result in token earnings, while unsuccessful ones lead to a loss of the wagered amount. Additionally, players can also utilize the SuperVerse token SUPER for wagering and earning rewards through the skill mode. The game has obtained an “Adults Only” (AO) rating from the ESRB due to its incorporation of real money wagering elements.
In addition to these updates, OverTrip’s latest release includes private lobbies with customizable wager terms, new skins, and a deathmatch mode. The battle royale mode, previously accommodating 20 players, now supports 50-player battles for supremacy.
TRIP was stealthily launched on November 30, with a portion of the token supply allocated towards player rewards through an airdrop and marketing initiatives. Notably, the team did not receive a formal token allocation, although team members could have purchased tokens prior to the announcement. The team is currently working on an on-chain report to enhance transparency regarding the token distribution.
Players who engaged in the game’s play-to-airdrop campaigns have received TRIP tokens via Trippy Terminal, which automatically set up a Solana wallet for users. However, some players have expressed dissatisfaction with what they perceive as meager airdrop allocations, with one user humorously lamenting his inability to afford even a toy Lamborghini with the received tokens.
It is not uncommon for gaming project airdrop campaigns to leave players feeling underwhelmed, similar to the sentiment expressed by participants in tap-to-earn games receiving minimal rewards after extended gameplay.
Overall, OverTrip’s latest updates and features showcase the game’s commitment to innovation and player engagement, offering a dynamic gaming experience with real-world implications.
