BitMine, a company focused on Ethereum, recently made headlines as its shares became one of the most actively traded equities in the United States. According to a disclosure on Aug. 25, the company cited data from Fundstrat showing that its stock had an average daily trading volume of $2.8 billion over the five trading days ending on Aug. 24. This placed BitMine at the 20th spot nationwide, just behind Coinbase at 19th, surpassing JPMorgan at 27th, and Palo Alto Networks at 21st out of over 5,700 publicly listed companies.
The surge in trading activity coincided with BitMine’s shift towards Ethereum. Market data from Google Finance indicated that the company’s stock had surged nearly 1,000% during this transition, peaking at $135 before settling at $53.49 at the latest check. This increased liquidity drew stronger investor attention and amplified volatility.
In addition to its market performance, BitMine has been actively accumulating Ethereum. As of Aug. 24, the company disclosed that it held 1.71 million ETH, valued at $4,808 per token at that time. Its balance sheet also included 192 BTC and $562 million in available cash, totaling $8.82 billion. This makes BitMine the largest holder of Ethereum globally and the second-largest corporate crypto treasury, behind Strategy, which holds a Bitcoin reserve worth approximately $71 billion.
BitMine initiated its Ethereum treasury program on June 30 and completed its initial phase within two weeks. Since then, the company has aggressively acquired ETH, acquiring over 190,000 ETH in the previous week alone. Chairman Thomas “Tom” Lee attributed this rapid accumulation to strong institutional demand, enabling BitMine to raise $2.2 billion in just seven days. Lee emphasized that the company sees Ethereum as a long-term opportunity, believing that Wall Street adoption and the integration of artificial intelligence with blockchain networks could position Ethereum as the backbone of the future financial system.
The information provided in this article highlights BitMine’s recent performance and strategic focus on Ethereum, positioning the company as a key player in the evolving cryptocurrency landscape.
