Chainlink, a leading blockchain platform, has recently unveiled a groundbreaking product known as Data Streams. This innovative offering provides real-time pricing data for major US equities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) directly onto blockchain networks, revolutionizing the way financial data is accessed and utilized.
In a recent statement released on August 4th, Chainlink announced that Data Streams is specifically designed to deliver live, low-latency data on popular US stocks and ETFs such as SPY, QQQ, NVDA, AAPL, and MSFT. This data is now available across 37 blockchain networks, opening up a world of possibilities for tokenized stock trading, perpetual futures, and synthetic ETFs.
Data Streams by Chainlink aggregate real-time data from a variety of primary and backup sources to ensure continuous uptime and accuracy. This information is processed through Chainlink’s decentralized oracle networks (DONs) and delivered on-chain in a structured format. Each data point is timestamped, allowing for differentiation between fresh and outdated prices and ensuring that trading is paused during market closures.
The introduction of Data Streams paves the way for the development of advanced financial products like perpetual contracts, lending and borrowing platforms, synthetic ETFs, and other complex financial instruments. With the Real World Asset (RWA) market projected to reach $30 trillion by 2030, the need for secure and scalable infrastructure in tokenized equity markets has never been more crucial.
Johann Eid, Chainlink’s Chief Business Officer, emphasized the significance of Data Streams in bridging the gap between traditional finance and blockchain technology. He stated, “This is a significant leap forward for tokenized markets—closing a critical gap between traditional finance and blockchain infrastructure.”
Leading DeFi protocols like GMX and Kamino Finance have already integrated Data Streams into their platforms. Thomas Short, co-founder of Kamino Finance, highlighted the platform’s commitment to enhancing user experience through seamless integration and maintaining trust and security across supported projects. He stated, “The launch of Data Streams for US equities and ETFs is a critical milestone toward a truly composable on-chain financial system that matches the scale and sophistication of traditional markets.”
As Chainlink continues to push the boundaries of blockchain technology and financial innovation, Data Streams stands out as a game-changing solution that is set to revolutionize the way financial data is accessed and utilized on blockchain networks.
