The Solana blockchain community recently raised concerns about Coinbase due to prolonged transaction delays on the network. Screenshots shared on social media revealed that transactions on Solana were taking up to 45 minutes to process, much longer than other networks like Base, Algorand, Arbitrum, and Avalanche.
Coinbase’s support initially attributed the delays to wallet maintenance or blockchain issues, suggesting that Solana’s infrastructure was to blame. This explanation led to frustration within the crypto community, with some accusing Coinbase of favoring its Base network over Solana.
In response, key figures within the Solana ecosystem, such as Mert Mumtaz from Helius Labs and Austin Federa, Solana’s Head of Strategy, refuted Coinbase’s claims. They explained that the delays were actually caused by Coinbase’s internal indexing systems and technical issues, rather than any shortcomings in Solana’s network.
A community note was also added to Coinbase’s support statement, highlighting that the exchange had been experiencing Solana delays for months. The note compared blockchain performance metrics, showing that Solana’s Time to Finality (TTF) was much faster than networks like Base and Arbitrum.
After acknowledging the delays on its status page, Coinbase confirmed that the issues had been resolved as of Nov. 28. Andrew Allen, a Protocol Specialist at Coinbase, reassured the community that the problem had been addressed and fixed.
Despite the resolution, some community members continued to criticize Coinbase for its handling of the situation. However, Milk Road creator Kyle Reidhead urged the crypto community to focus on Coinbase’s broader contributions to the industry rather than dwelling on this specific issue.
Overall, the Solana community’s concerns about Coinbase’s handling of transaction delays have shed light on the importance of clear communication and transparency in the crypto space. As both platforms continue to grow and evolve, collaboration and understanding between different networks will be crucial for the industry’s success.
