With the gaming industry constantly evolving, a new ambitious shooter game is currently in development that is sure to shake things up. Distinct Possibility Studios has recently emerged from stealth mode after two years and unveiled their flagship title: Reaper Actual. This first-person, open-world military extraction shooter game will feature blockchain integrations, setting it apart from other games in the genre.
Game industry veteran John Smedley is at the helm of this new project. With a wealth of experience from working in Sony’s gaming division for over a decade and creating the popular MMORPG EverQuest, Smedley’s expertise is sure to bring something unique to Reaper Actual.
Reaper Actual is not your typical shooter game. It is described as an “open-world persistent shooter,” meaning that the virtual world will be constantly changing and evolving. Players, known as Reapers, will not be loading into the same generic map with randomized loot like in other popular titles. Instead, the world of Marova will be dynamic and ever-changing, providing a fresh and immersive experience for players.
The game is expected to feature a larger map than what we have seen in similar titles, with PvPvE action that combines player-on-player combat with environmental targets and hazards. Distinct Possibility Studios plans to initially charge for the game, with a transition to a free-to-play model in the future, offering rewards to early buyers.
In terms of funding, Distinct Possibility has raised an impressive $30.5 million in a round led by gaming-forward VC firm Bitkraft and Brevan Howard Digital. With investments from the Tezos Foundation, Delphi Ventures, Shima Capital, Hashed, and others, the studio has the financial backing to bring their ambitious vision to life.
To bring Reaper Actual to fruition, Distinct Possibility is working with multiple outsourcing firms, including Iron Belly, Big Moxi, and Secret Dimension, in addition to their own team of over 40 staff. The use of blockchain technology in the game will allow players to trade in-game items and custom creations using the EVM L2 Etherlink.
Overall, Reaper Actual promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the shooter game genre, combining innovative gameplay elements with blockchain integration.
