The closure of game studio Midnight Society has left fans of the discontinued shooter game Deadrop in a state of frustration and disappointment. Following the studio’s shutdown, disgruntled players have taken matters into their own hands by seeking refunds for their early access passes through their banks and credit card providers.
Players have banded together in Midnight Society’s abandoned Discord server to share information on how to successfully chargeback their purchases. Deadrop, the vertical extraction shooter developed by Midnight Society, saw almost two years in early access before the studio closed its doors. The game initially sold Founders Access Pass NFTs on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon, followed by $25 Tower Key passes and later Drivers Keys for $20-30 each.
Once Midnight Society ceased operations in January 2025, players realized that many of the promised in-game items and features they had paid for would never be delivered. This led to a wave of refund requests from players who felt they had been misled and scammed by the studio.
One player, known as Jay, shared that he had spent nearly $450 on Deadrop Drivers Keys in anticipation of using the items in-game alongside his son. However, with the game now discontinued, he and others feel cheated out of their money for products that were never provided.
Former Discord moderator Caramel has been assisting players in securing refunds by advising them to contact their banks and credit card companies and explain that the purchased products were never delivered. Some players have already seen success in obtaining refunds, with Caramel claiming to have helped 11 individuals so far.
Despite the studio’s closure, players continue to express their frustration with Midnight Society and its founders. The lack of response from the studio to refund requests and the continued availability of merchandise and NFTs for purchase have only fueled players’ anger and disappointment.
As players navigate the refund process and hope for a resolution, the future of Deadrop remains uncertain. With the game officially discontinued and the studio silent on the matter, players are left to seek recourse through their financial institutions in pursuit of justice for their lost investments in the game. As an editor, I understand the frustration that can come with feeling like a solution is out of reach. When faced with a problem and those in charge don’t seem to have a plan, it can be disheartening. However, it’s important to remember that sometimes the best solutions come from unexpected places.
In situations where a solution hasn’t been offered, it’s easy to lose faith in the ability of those in charge to come up with one. However, it’s also important to remember that sometimes the best solutions come from collaboration and thinking outside the box. Instead of relying solely on those in charge, it can be helpful to brainstorm with others and come up with creative solutions together.
Transparency is key when it comes to finding a solution. If those in charge aren’t being upfront about their plans or lack thereof, it can be difficult to trust that a solution will ever be reached. However, by encouraging open communication and holding those in charge accountable, it’s possible to work towards a solution together.
In times of uncertainty, it’s natural to feel a lack of faith in finding a solution. However, by remaining open-minded and willing to work together, it’s possible to overcome even the most challenging obstacles. Remember, sometimes the best solutions come from unexpected places.
