Decentraland, the social virtual world, is set to host its flagship event, Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) this month. The event, scheduled to take place from 9 April to 12 April, will feature over 47 global designers and brands, all coming together under the theme of ‘Infinite Identities.’
According to the official press release, MVFW 2025 will be held on Decentraland 2.0, the platform’s redesigned desktop client. The team has made significant improvements to enhance visuals, interactivity, and accessibility, creating an immersive environment for both creators and attendees.
The highlight of MVFW will be the 16 interactive designer showrooms that explore the intersection of fashion, technology, and cultural narratives. The showrooms are divided into two thematic zones. The ‘Augmented Self’ zone will showcase innovative uses of AI, AR, and digital-physical fashion by designers like Digital Drip, FFFACE.ME, Another-1 X Templa, and Chipped. On the other hand, the ‘Storied Self’ zone will focus on fashion as a form of cultural storytelling, featuring adaptive fashion for prosthetics by SVD Denim, mycelium-inspired wearables from GLTCH Atelier, and digital storytelling by Spatialgineers Collective.
In addition to the designer showrooms, MVFW will also feature a $15,000 prize pool, with winning entries debuting on a dedicated runway.
The event promises a mix of runways, showrooms, installations, and panels, all aimed at showcasing the creative potential of digital fashion. Attendees can expect to see animated collections that blur the line between digital and physical fashion, as designers redefine the traditional runway experience.
Installations at MVFW will delve into themes of identity, technology, and culture, with highlights including ‘Entangled Q’ by Cansy, a quantum-inspired art installation, and ‘OFF-WORLD Galactic Expansion’ by The Immersive KIND, a futuristic display combining AI-generated beauty, robotics couture, and interstellar aesthetics.
Panel discussions at the event will feature industry insiders from Harper’s BAZAAR Australia, Parsons School of Design, Ready Player Me, Institut Français de la Mode, Boy’s Club, and more. Topics of discussion will include digital self-expression, AI’s impact on fashion creativity, wearable tech in gaming environments, and the convergence of physical and virtual retail.
Bay Backner, Head Producer of MVFW, emphasizes the importance of digital fashion in sparking cultural change and providing a space for creativity and self-expression. He believes that in a time when the physical world feels restrictive, platforms like Decentraland offer a third space where people can truly be themselves.
Overall, Metaverse Fashion Week 2025 promises to be a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the limitless possibilities of digital fashion. Stay tuned for more updates from this groundbreaking event.
