The European Blockchain Sandbox has recently unveiled its third cohort of innovative projects, showcasing a diverse range of Web3, tokenization, decentralization, and blockchain-related initiatives. Led by experts from Warren Brandeis, the selection team handpicked twenty participants for this round of dialogues.
One standout project in this cohort is Privado ID, in collaboration with Privately, a pioneering digital age verification and online child safety solution utilizing Blockchain Age Estimation. Formerly known as PolygonID, Privado ID enables individuals to validate their age and credentials without compromising sensitive personal information. Employing cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), the platform competes with World ID, the digital identity and cryptocurrency venture founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
The emphasis of Privado ID and Privately’s partnership lies in age verification through self-sovereign identity (SSI), addressing a crucial challenge in the digital landscape of 2025 and beyond. By leveraging ZKPs and verifiable credentials (VCs), the collaborators mitigate the risks associated with sharing personal data in an increasingly interconnected world.
Another notable participant in the cohort is Parfin, a digital assets infrastructure company spearheading the development of Rayls blockchain, a privacy-centric platform facilitating financial institutions, including central banks, in issuing digital currencies, tokenizing real-world assets, and executing cross-border transactions.
The lineup also includes CHARONIUM, a digital inheritance platform, Blocksquare, a Web3 tokenization infrastructure, PixelPai, a Web3/4 financial compliance platform, Tree, a decentralized and tokenized knowledge graph protocol, and TECNALIA, an EMERALD blockchain-based trustworthiness system.
Frictionless Markets, a project merging traditional finance systems with advanced blockchain technology, and 31Third, offering a blockchain-native infrastructure for institutional asset management, are also part of the cohort.
Furthermore, a collaborative effort incubated by Chromaway features Traced Systems, Instagrid, Batteriretur, and Cling Systems, who have jointly developed a blockchain-powered Digital Product Passport (DPP) for end-of-life battery management.
The European Blockchain Regulatory Sandbox, an initiative of the European Commission, serves as a platform for engaging regulators, supervisory authorities, and blockchain innovators in a regulatory dialogue to navigate legal and regulatory obstacles. The Sandbox aims to enhance understanding of cutting-edge blockchain technologies and foster legal certainty for decentralized solutions.
With two successful discussions under its belt, the European Blockchain Sandbox has consistently selected diverse projects, regulators, authorities, and financial entities to refine regional regulatory strategies. In a similar vein, the United Kingdom launched a digital securities sandbox consultation for DLT testing in April 2024, spearheaded by the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority.
The evolution of blockchain technology continues to shape the future of digital innovation, with initiatives like the European Blockchain Sandbox paving the way for collaborative advancements in the industry.
