French electronics giant Metavasio, operating under the brand name Thomson Computing, has made a groundbreaking move by introducing the world’s first web3 laptop. This innovative laptop is designed to offer users the ability to store digital assets securely and interact with decentralized applications seamlessly.
The key feature of this web3 laptop is its built-in cold storage for digital assets, providing users with a safe and secure way to store their cryptocurrencies. With the increasing number of hacks and thefts from centralized exchanges, the integrated cold storage on this laptop aims to give users full control over their crypto custody, reducing the risk of losing their digital wealth.
In addition to cold storage, the laptop also incorporates a multi-party computation (MPC) framework. This cryptographic protocol distributes private key operations across multiple parties, eliminating single points of failure and enhancing security. Metavasio has partnered with io.finnet, a U.S.-based company specializing in secure digital asset infrastructure and advanced cryptographic solutions, to ensure the highest level of security for users.
The Thomson Computing Wallet is seamlessly integrated into the laptop, along with an underlying token ecosystem. This ecosystem incentivizes users to engage with decentralized applications and participate in activities such as resource sharing. The goal is to empower users to take control of their digital experiences and truly own their digital lives.
Stephan Français, founder and CEO of Metavasio, expressed his vision for the web3 laptop, stating, “The Web3 laptop offers a gateway to a decentralized future, empowering users to truly own their digital experiences. More than just a device, it’s designed to help individuals connect, create, and reclaim control of their digital lives.”
Thomson Computing has a strong global presence, with its devices sold in over 52 countries and through more than 16,000 physical points of sale. The launch of the web3 laptop comes after a successful eur 50 million SAFE financing round in October, secured from American AI and Hardware Investments LTD. This funding will support Metavasio’s expansion into blockchain technology and hardware innovation.
The tech industry has been witnessing a trend towards integrating Web3 capabilities into consumer devices. Web3 smartphones, such as Saga and Seeker developed by Solana Mobiles, and the Exodus 1 by HTC, have paved the way for blockchain technology to become a part of everyday life. The introduction of the world’s first web3 laptop by Metavasio marks a significant milestone in this evolution, offering users a secure and efficient way to interact with decentralized networks and applications.
