Months after its anticipated second season launch, the popular Telegram game Hamster Kombat is making a comeback with a revamped gameplay experience. However, its token has hit an all-time low price, causing concern among investors. The HMSTR token, which operates on The Open Network (TON), dropped to $0.001461 on Tuesday, its lowest price yet. Although it has slightly recovered to $0.0015, it is still down by nearly 7% for the day. This marks a significant 79% decrease from its peak price reached during the launch in September 2024.
The game, which attracted over 300 million players last year, gained immense popularity as the tap-to-earn trend gained momentum. However, the excitement waned once the token was introduced. Approximately 130 million players were eligible for the token airdrop, but many were disappointed with the small allocations they received. As a result, the number of monthly players on the Telegram mini app has drastically decreased to around 12 million.
Season 2 of Hamster Kombat was originally scheduled to launch shortly after the token release but faced several delays. The development team, who chose to remain anonymous, announced a new direction late last year, introducing the “HamsterVerse” concept—a collection of interconnected games rather than just the next season. The flagship game within HamsterVerse is Hamster Kombat: GameDev Hero, which retains the tap-to-earn mechanics while allowing players to assemble a team of developers and create games to increase their earnings.
In addition to GameDev Hero, another game called Hamster Fight Club, offering a simple combat experience, is now accessible through the HamsterVerse mini app on Telegram. Other games such as Hamster Boost and Hamster King are currently in closed beta testing.
The “interlude” season of Hamster Kombat, which rewarded players based on the number of diamonds they earned, has concluded. Players can now redeem their diamonds for rewards in the upcoming HamsterVerse games, all of which are set to provide HMSTR token rewards.
Despite the challenges faced by the HMSTR token, the HamsterVerse platform continues to evolve, offering a diverse range of gaming experiences for players to enjoy.
