Rumble Kong League, a popular mobile basketball game associated with NBA stars Steph Curry and Paul George, has recently announced its decision to migrate to the Ethereum sidechain Ronin. This move comes after initially planning to launch on Avalanche, but ultimately opting for Ronin due to its impressive user base and token holders.
Ronin, known for hosting games like Pixels and Axie Infinity, boasts 17.2 million wallet downloads and 18.9 million RON token holders. The developers of Rumble Kong League view the migration to Ronin as a significant move for the future of the game and its community.
In a recent statement, the project expressed their excitement about the partnership with Ronin, stating, “This isn’t just a partnership, it’s a slam dunk for the future of RKL and our holders.”
Initially, Rumble Kong League had announced plans to launch on Avalanche in August 2023 to help scale its game. While onchain Avalanche integration was in the project’s roadmap, it will now be implemented on Ronin instead.
As part of the migration, Rumble Kong League is extending the soft launch of its game on iOS and Android to welcome Ronin users. Additionally, the in-game FAME rewards will be doubled, with plans for them to be redeemable for on-chain tokens when FAME launches in the first quarter.
RKL’s move to Ronin marks the beginning of the blockchain’s initiative to open up to more applications, games, and decentralized finance apps through “Operation Leviosa.” This operation aims to make Ronin a permissionless and open ecosystem for all builders by February.
The Rumble Kong League game offers 3v3 basketball competitions where players can compete against each other. Originally launched in 2021 as a collection of 10,000 NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain, the game has since garnered support from Stephen Curry’s Penny Jar Capital and collaborations with Paul George’s foundation, as well as sports brands like Stance and Gatorade.
Overall, Rumble Kong League’s migration to Ronin signifies a new chapter for the game, its community, and the future of blockchain gaming. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development.
