Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson teased a major announcement on Tuesday, hinting at a long-awaited multibillion-dollar partnership that has been in the works for over two years.
While the details of the partnership were not immediately revealed, speculation suggests that it could be related to Immutable’s collaboration with Ubisoft.
Back in November 2023, Immutable announced a partnership with Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab, sparking excitement within the gaming community.
During a recent interview at the Game Developers Conference, Immutable Chief Studio Officer Justin Hulog shared insights into the collaborative efforts between Immutable and Ubisoft. Hulog mentioned that they have been working on co-developing a new game with Ubisoft for the past two and a half years, drawing on the best practices and insights from both teams.
The upcoming game, which is yet to be officially announced, is expected to incorporate blockchain elements and may leverage Immutable’s zkEVM technology, a cutting-edge solution that is gaining traction among game developers.
Ubisoft, known for popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, has been exploring the potential of blockchain technology in gaming. The studio recently launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles on the Oasys blockchain in October 2024.
In a panel discussion at the Game Developers Conference, Ubisoft’s Innovation Lab VP Nicolas Pouard emphasized the importance of remaining chain-agnostic in the rapidly evolving blockchain landscape.
The announcement of the partnership sent the IMX token soaring, with a 28% spike in value within hours of Ferguson’s tweet. The token is currently experiencing a 34% increase in value over the past week, according to CoinGecko data.
As the gaming industry continues to embrace blockchain technology, the collaboration between Immutable and Ubisoft holds promise for innovative gaming experiences on the horizon.
