VINE, a meme coin inspired by the former Vine video app, has recently experienced a significant surge in value, thanks to what is being called the “Musk effect.”
The token saw a remarkable increase of over 110% to reach $0.079 after Elon Musk hinted at the potential revival of the Vine app. Despite having no official ties to the original Vine platform, VINE’s market capitalization soared by $43 million, reaching a peak of $80.7 million. While the token has since retraced slightly to around $0.053, it still maintains gains of approximately 47.5% in the past 24 hours.
The rally was sparked by Elon Musk’s X post confirming that Vine is “making a comeback.” This announcement came after Musk responded to a user query about the return of the short-form video platform, stating that his team was exploring the possibility. Although Musk did not mention the VINE token directly, his mention of Vine ignited excitement within the meme coin community, leading to a surge in investor interest.
The VINE token was launched by Vine co-founder Rus Yusupov in January 2025 to pay homage to the original platform. Binance Futures also listed VINE earlier this year as a USDT-based perpetual contract with leverage of up to 25x. Despite the early success of Vine, which was founded in 2012 and later acquired by Twitter (now X) for $30 million, the platform was discontinued in 2017 due to increased competition from other social media platforms.
It is important to note that VINE is a speculative asset with no confirmed utility or direct link to Musk’s potential AI-powered video app under the xAI company. The token primarily trades on decentralized exchanges like Raydium and centralized platforms such as LBank and Gate. Additionally, analysts have cautioned that recent price movements may be influenced by coordinated whale activity, given the token’s low liquidity and volatility on certain platforms.
If Musk does proceed with the relaunch of Vine, it would face tough competition from established players like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts in the short-form video content space. Musk’s previous influence on meme coins, such as Dogecoin and KEKIUS, has led to short-term price spikes followed by sharp corrections. Therefore, without a formal integration into any upcoming projects or utility beyond its commemorative purpose, VINE remains a high-risk speculative asset that traders should approach with caution.
In conclusion, it is essential to exercise prudence when considering investments in VINE or any similar meme coins, as their value can be highly volatile and influenced by external factors. This article serves as educational content and does not constitute investment advice.
