Tatsu Works, the blockchain game developer, made a tough decision to end the development of its MMORPG-lite title, Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates, after a three-year journey supported by $7.5 million in venture capital. The Singapore-based company announced this decision in a blog post on Monday, citing multiple playtests that did not meet their expectations for a sustainable product.
The company expressed gratitude towards the community for their support and excitement about Lumina Fates, despite the disappointing outcome. Tatsu Works mentioned that while the concepts behind the game were exciting, the end results did not give them the confidence to continue in a sustainable manner. The team is now focusing on a new project called Project: Wander, which aims to provide a fresh and engaging experience for their audience.
Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates was designed to operate on the Ethereum and Solana blockchains, incorporating NFTs to offer unique digital assets and a new gaming business model. The game was a follow-up to the success of Tatsu.GG, a Discord-based platform used by millions of communities and users for gamification purposes.
Despite the setback with Lumina Fates, Tatsu Works is committed to creating games that thrive within existing communities. They have promised to repurpose existing NFTs from the game, such as Meekolony Passes and Aethereal Parcels, for future projects to ensure that past participants remain engaged in the evolving ecosystem.
In June 2022, Tatsu Works secured $7.5 million in seed funding for Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates, with investments from prominent firms like DeFiance Capital, Delphi Ventures, and Bitkraft Ventures. Other investors included Binance Labs, Animoca Brands, Dialectic, and GuildFi.
The company’s decision to shift focus back to community-driven game development reflects their dedication to creating engaging experiences for their audience. Despite the challenges faced with Lumina Fates, Tatsu Works remains optimistic about their future projects and the opportunities they hold for their community.
