Two individuals have recently been apprehended for their involvement in throwing sex toys during Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) games, a controversial act that a memecoin group has claimed responsibility for.
Over the past two weeks, there have been five reported instances of sex toys, predominantly green in color, being tossed onto the court during WNBA matches. The most recent incident took place in Chicago on Thursday.
In an interview with USA Today, a spokesperson for the group linked to the newly launched Green Dildo Coin (DILDO) memecoin, identified as Daldo Raine, disclosed that he and other cryptocurrency enthusiasts orchestrated the pranks.
The WNBA players and coaches have expressed disapproval of the stunts, as the already contentious and specialized memecoin culture seeks to distinguish itself in a saturated market that has been struggling to maintain momentum.
Daldo Raine explained that the token was developed as a light-hearted protest against what he perceives as a toxic environment dominated by influencers and scammers within the memecoin realm. He emphasized the group’s desire to alter the culture in cryptocurrency and stand out amidst the competition.
To garner attention, the dildos are colored green as a nod to crypto jargon denoting upward price movement on trading charts with green bars, while also aiming to spark interest among spectators.
The memecoin group intends to shift towards more tasteful and light-hearted pranks to continue attracting attention.
In a separate development, two individuals, Kaden Lopez and Delbert Carver, have been detained for their alleged involvement in the sex toy throwing incidents. However, Daldo Raine clarified that neither of these individuals are affiliated with the memecoin group.
According to reports from FOX 10 Phoenix, 18-year-old Lopez admitted to purchasing a sex toy after seeing the trend on social media. Carver was arrested in Georgia and faces charges related to disorderly conduct, public indecency, and criminal trespass for throwing a sex toy onto a basketball court in Atlanta.
The WNBA has expressed outrage over the incidents, with players and coaches condemning the stunts for posing a safety hazard and demonstrating a lack of respect for the game. The league’s code of conduct mandates that any fan caught throwing objects onto the court will be ejected from the stadium and may face legal repercussions.
Despite claims from Daldo Raine that the stunt was not intended as disrespect towards the female athletes, critics argue that the act has misogynistic undertones.
Similar pranks have occurred in other sports, such as a 2018 NFL game where a sex toy landed in the end zone during a match between the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills.
The memecoin market currently has a market cap of $70.6 billion, down approximately 45% from its peak of $127.26 billion on December 6, based on data from CoinMarketCap.
Pump.fun, the leading launchpad in the memecoin industry, has witnessed an 80% decline in revenue from its peak in January, reaching just $24.96 million in July, marking the lowest month of 2025 for the platform.
