Blockchain-driven battle royale shooter Off the Grid has just rolled out its most significant update yet, introducing a host of new features and content to keep players engaged and excited. Developed by Gunzilla Games, this update aims to enhance the gameplay experience and expand the world of Teardrop Island.
Off the Grid initially made waves when it launched in early access last October, blending elements of battle royale and extraction shooter genres with a reality TV-inspired setting. The game quickly rose to fame, becoming the most popular free-to-play title on the Epic Games Store, even surpassing the likes of Fortnite. It later received critical acclaim, winning Decrypt’s Game of the Year award.
In its latest update, Off the Grid unlocks a new playable region on the map, Midtown Harbour, described as an “industrial hell hole” by the developers. This addition expands the game world and offers new challenges for players to explore and conquer. The region is home to the Mexican Nuestros Diablos gang, who will defend their territory fiercely in the new street event introduced in this update.
Players can now participate in the Combat DJ side mission, where squads battle for control of an area surrounding a DJ booth while music blares in the background. Dominating the zone will reward players with loot and XP, adding a fresh dynamic to the gameplay experience. Additionally, the update introduces the MaxiGun cyberlimb, a powerful weapon that promises to shake up gameplay strategies and tactics.
For players interested in cosmetic upgrades, the update includes a Nuestros Diablos content pack and the Pacifist Character Set in the battle pass. Furthermore, the update addresses various bug fixes, weapon improvements, and user interface changes to enhance overall gameplay performance.
Off the Grid’s crypto elements are currently active on the GUNZ testnet, a dedicated L1 network on the Avalanche blockchain. The long-term vision for the game includes the creation of a marketplace where players can freely trade weapons, cyberlimbs, and skins, similar to Valve’s Steam marketplace.
While this update is touted as the game’s most significant yet, the upcoming launch of in-game crypto elements and the introduction of the GUN token could potentially revolutionize the gaming industry by driving adoption of crypto gaming. With these exciting developments on the horizon, Off the Grid continues to push boundaries and innovate in the gaming space.
