South Korean prosecutors are currently investigating former President Yoon Suk-yeol and former First Lady Kim Keon-hee in connection with suspected crypto fraudster Jon Bur Kim, also known as Park. Park, a crypto market maker and luxury sports car collector, has been indicted for crypto fraud. Prosecutors believe he issued and manipulated two “scam coins,” using fake news to manipulate their prices.
Recently, prosecutors have uncovered a potential link between Park’s case and that of the former First Lady. Kim Keon-hee is facing charges of influence peddling, stock manipulation, and other corruption-related offenses. The investigation into Kim Keon-hee also involves former President Yoon, who was impeached after failing in a bid to declare martial law in South Korea.
Former President Yoon has been charged with various corruption-related offenses but has twice refused to respond to court summons. Prosecution officials are now considering requesting an arrest warrant for him. The probe has expanded to include Yoon and Kim’s associates, including former senior prosecutor Kim Sang-min. Prosecutors suspect that Kim Sang-min may have received illicit money from Park, the chief suspect in the crypto fraud case.
Media reports suggest that Park embezzled millions of dollars from investors and may have provided funds to Kim Sang-min for vehicle rental fees during his failed election bid. Prosecutors believe that Kim Keon-hee used her influence to assist Kim Sang-min in his campaign.
In a separate development, the special prosecution team investigating the case has summoned a suspect linked to a rug pull scam involving a suspected scam coin named Atube and a token named Podo Coin. Prosecutors allege that Park and CEO Moon were involved in stealing billions of won through these fraudulent schemes.
The investigation into the former President and the suspected crypto fraudster continues to unfold, with prosecutors delving into the intricate web of corruption and fraud that has ensnared high-profile figures in South Korea.
