Pump.fun co-founder Alon Cohen is refuting recent reports claiming that the Solana (SOL)-based memecoin launchpad will be introducing its own native token. Crypto reporter Colin Wu initially stated that Pump.fun was in the process of creating its own token and intended to utilize the Dutch auction system for public offerings.
Wu mentioned that his team had verified this information with insiders from various centralized exchanges (CEXs) that Pump.fun was collaborating with to develop this system. However, Cohen took to the social media platform X to dismiss these speculations, urging followers to only trust information directly from Pump.fun.
In a statement, Cohen addressed the rumors surrounding a potential Pump.fun token, asserting that they were false. He emphasized that while the Pump.fun team had been focused on enhancing their product over the past year, they remained dedicated to properly rewarding their users, emphasizing that good things take time.
Despite Cohen’s denial, Wu stood by his initial report, claiming to have evidence supporting the claim. Wu’s blockchain team allegedly acquired detailed documents outlining Pump.fun’s coin issuance preparations provided to the CEXs. Additionally, multiple exchange listing staff members allegedly confirmed Pump.fun’s plans to issue a token, although the exact timing remained uncertain.
