Sui Network’s Parasol Reveals Launch of Code of Joker: Evolutions Trading Card Game
Parasol, the gaming infrastructure subsidiary of Sui network contributor Mysten Labs, made a groundbreaking announcement on Friday. The highly anticipated trading card game, Code of Joker: Evolutions, based on a licensed IP from gaming giant Sega, is set to launch on the Sui platform.
Developed by Jokers Inc., Code of Joker: Evolutions marks the revival of a series initially introduced by Sega in 2013. While the original Code of Joker game was designed for arcades, this new version will be accessible through web browsers and mobile devices, making it more convenient for players to enjoy.
One of the key features that set Code of Joker: Evolutions apart is its integration of digital trading cards onto the Sui blockchain. This innovative approach will enable players to authenticate ownership, engage in trading, and proudly display their card collections. The game is scheduled for release in late summer 2025, promising an immersive and interactive gaming experience for enthusiasts.
Takashi “Gin” Mizouka, co-founder of Jokers Inc., expressed excitement about the partnership with Sui, stating, “From our first conversation on what a digital experience of Code of Joker: Evolutions would look like, we knew that we wanted to match the physical feeling of opening a new card pack. Sui was the only blockchain that could make this vision a reality.”
It is worth noting that Sega is not directly involved in the development of Code of Joker: Evolutions, following a similar approach taken with a previous blockchain gaming project. The success of Battle of Three Kingdoms, a game based on a dormant Sega IP and developed by Double Jump Tokyo, on the Oasys blockchain paved the way for this new venture.
In a strategic move, Sega has chosen to explore the blockchain gaming space through licensing its IP, while refraining from incorporating its flagship franchises into this experimental phase. The trademark application for the Code of Jokers: Evolutions name in 2023 sparked excitement and speculation among fans, hinting at the game’s eventual release.
Additionally, the Sui gaming ecosystem is set to welcome another iconic IP from a renowned Japanese studio, as SNK-licensed Samurai Shodown R is slated for launch on the platform later this year. Alongside these exciting developments, Sui will introduce the SuiPlay0X1, a cutting-edge PC gaming handheld device tailored for gaming enthusiasts. Pre-order units of the SuiPlay0X1 are currently available for $599, offering a glimpse into the future of gaming technology.
