Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino continues to advocate for USDT on the Bitcoin Lightning network, emphasizing its superiority over other blockchains for large-scale transactions.
Ardoino believes that USDT belongs on the Bitcoin network, citing their intertwined history. He highlights the upcoming integration of USDT on the Lightning network as a significant step in returning the stablecoin to its natural habitat.
USDT Set to Join Bitcoin Lightning Network
In a recent conversation with Scott Melker, Ardoino confirmed the imminent arrival of USDT on the Bitcoin network via the Lightning network. He recalls USDT’s origins on the Bitcoin network’s Omni layer and the decision to discontinue issuance on Omni due to low demand.
However, with the upcoming integration, USDT is poised to make a comeback on the Bitcoin network, following the collaboration announcement made on January 30 by Lightning Lab and Tether.
Advantages of Bitcoin Lightning Network
Ardoino underlines the unique advantages of Bitcoin Lightning for conducting large transactions with USDT. He points out the simplicity and efficiency of Lightning’s peer-to-peer network, which relies on nodes for transaction processing.
Compared to other layer 2 solutions, Ardoino notes that Lightning’s decentralized nature and use of payment channels provide users with enhanced privacy and security. This differs from Ethereum’s L2 networks, where validators may have access to sensitive data.
Moreover, Ardoino’s observations align with a broader trend of innovations returning to Bitcoin, as seen with Cardano EMURGO’s collaboration to bring DeFi and smart contract capabilities to Bitcoin users through the BOS Grail bridge.
