Is Shatterline the Next Big Hero Shooter?
Shatterline is a fast-paced, first-person hero shooter that has recently gained attention for its satisfying movement system and solid gunplay. However, with the influx of hero shooters saturating the market, it can be challenging to see how Shatterline sets itself apart.

Originally released on Steam in 2022, Shatterline underwent a transformation when Faraway, a gaming startup associated with Yuga Labs and the HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara IP, took over as the game’s publisher. This transition introduced NFT companions in the player-versus-environment (PvE) mode, adding a unique twist to the gameplay experience.
While the PvE mode offers a new dimension to the game with its crypto elements, the PvP modes such as team deathmatch, escort, and conquest seem to be where the community thrives. The game’s exceptional movement system allows players to traverse the map with agility, outmaneuvering their opponents with dashes, sprints, slides, and climbs.
Although the gunplay in Shatterline is commendable, some weapons may feel clunky or underpowered, impacting the overall gameplay experience. Additionally, the hero characters, each with unique abilities, lack standout qualities in terms of both functionality and personality.

The PvE mode introduces players to a mission-based gameplay loop where they must gather resources, eliminate aliens, and safely extract from the area. Holders of HV-MTL NFTs can utilize their mechs as in-game assets, enhancing their gameplay experience.
Looking ahead, Faraway has plans to incorporate more crypto elements into Shatterline, such as play-to-airdrop campaigns and leaderboards with USDC rewards. These initiatives aim to provide players with additional incentives to engage with the game and stand out in a competitive market.
While Shatterline offers a solid gaming experience with standout features like nimble movement, it may struggle to leave a lasting impression amidst heavyweights like Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, and Apex Legends. It remains a fun game to explore for a few hours, but its long-term staying power remains to be seen.
