The Ronin team is gearing up for a major move as they plan to migrate their gaming chain into a full-fledged, Ethereum-aligned layer 2 by 2026. A new proposal suggests building Ronin L2 as an Arbitrum Orbit chain, marking a significant shift in the project’s trajectory.
The proposal aims to leverage Arbitrum’s unique position to support Ronin as it transitions back to Ethereum. With Arbitrum’s dedicated web 3 gaming venture arm, the partnership goes beyond technical collaboration. Ronin L2 on the Arbitrum Orbit chain will be powered by the RON token and backed by Arbitrum Gaming Ventures, offering a range of benefits to users.
One of the key reasons for choosing Arbitrum Orbit is its native support for RON as a gas token, fast transaction speeds, customizability, self-governance, and optimized fee revenue for validators. Unlike other L2 solutions, Arbitrum Orbit provides seamless support for all ecosystem functionalities without compromises.
By building on Arbitrum Orbit, Ronin users will enjoy instant transactions, enhanced gaming community support, and accelerated web3 gaming adoption. This move has the potential to strengthen integration across the Ethereum ecosystem and drive greater utility for the native RON token.
The decision to migrate Ronin to Ethereum comes after the project’s initial launch as a layer-1 blockchain in 2021. Developed by Sky Mavis to address scalability challenges for Axie Infinity, Ronin has evolved over the years with upgrades to its consensus model and integration of ecosystem solutions like Chainlink’s cross-chain interoperability protocol.
Recent developments, such as the launch of Open Ronin via Project Leviosa, have expanded Ronin’s capabilities beyond gaming to support smart contracts for DeFi, infrastructure, and consumer applications. The transition to an L2 on Ethereum aligns with the project’s vision to become the gamification engine of Ethereum.
As Ronin prepares for this migration, the community is eagerly anticipating the benefits of enhanced scalability, improved transaction speeds, and increased interoperability with other Ethereum-based projects. The future looks promising for Ronin as it positions itself for a new chapter in its journey towards becoming a leading player in the decentralized gaming space.
