Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has had a change of heart when it comes to memecoins, thanks to the overwhelming support his new education initiative, Giggle Academy, has received in the form of crypto donations.
The Giggle Academy, which aims to provide free learning opportunities, saw an incredible $2.4 million in contributions within days of launching its donation feature. Zhao took to social media platform X to express his gratitude for the generosity of the crypto community, noting that the academy had collected over $1 million in its first 12 hours.
What truly surprised Zhao was the fact that nearly 90% of the early donations came from a single memecoin project called Giggle. This memecoin, built on the Binance Smart Chain, pledges to donate its trading fees to support the academy. With a maximum supply of 1 million coins and over 7000 holders, Giggle has managed to capture Zhao’s attention and change his perspective on memecoins.
While Zhao admitted to not knowing the creators of Giggle or the intricacies of its smart contract, he acknowledged the unique utility of the project and its potential impact. He announced that the donations received would be utilized to incentivize contributors and foster growth, emphasizing that the funds would not be used for employee salaries. Zhao also assured that he would personally cover any employee and server costs for the foreseeable future.
