Coinbase Payments has recently announced its collaboration with the Open Intents Framework to streamline and standardize cross-chain asset transfers across Ethereum and its Layer 2 networks. This partnership aims to simplify the process of moving assets and data seamlessly between different Ethereum networks, providing users with a more efficient and secure experience.
Summary
- Coinbase has joined over 30 contributors in the Open Intents Framework to advance secure cross-chain operations.
- The framework enables developers to build intent-based applications using modular components like solvers, smart contracts, and UI templates.
- Users can easily transfer assets across Ethereum L2s, with solvers automatically executing transactions.
As a core contributor to the Open Intents Framework, Coinbase is working alongside various Layer 2 teams to establish open standards for secure and permissionless cross-chain asset transfers. This collaboration will empower developers on the Ethereum network to leverage the framework’s modular components, including solvers, smart contracts, and UI templates, to expedite the development and deployment of intent-based applications.
By utilizing the Open Intents Framework, users can seamlessly transfer assets and data across different Ethereum networks and Layer 2 solutions. Through the simple expression of an “intent,” such as token swaps across chains, a specialized agent known as a solver can automatically execute transactions on behalf of the user.
“The Open Intents Framework represents a significant milestone towards mainstream applications like ecommerce, where cross-chain payments can be as seamless as traditional web experiences, all while benefiting from the security of the Ethereum network,” stated Coinbase in a recent announcement.

Coinbase Open Intents Framework
Introduced in February by the Ethereum Foundation, the Open Intents Framework aims to unify the Ethereum Layer 2 ecosystem by establishing standards for cross-chain operations. Building on existing standards like ERC-7683, which govern the creation, execution, and settlement of intents, the framework enables fast and efficient cross-chain transactions across Ethereum and its Layer 2 networks.
Coinbase’s involvement in the Open Intents Framework adds to a growing list of contributors, which includes major Layer 2 solutions such as Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync, and Scroll, as well as cross-chain protocols like LI.FI. Other participants, including Wonderland, Taiko, and Across Protocol, have integrated OIF modules to simplify cross-chain asset transfers and explore innovative order types like cross-chain Dutch auctions.
