Solana Enters the Hardware Market with Play Solana Gen 1 Handheld Gaming Console
The Solana ecosystem is making waves in the hardware industry with the upcoming launch of its first handheld gaming console. Play Solana, a project focused on creating a Web3 gaming device on the Solana blockchain, has announced that it will begin shipping its Play Solana Gen 1 (PSG1) device on October 6th.
The PSG1 boasts impressive gaming-ready specifications, including an octa-core ARM processor, 8 gigabytes of RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a touch LCD display. Additionally, it features a built-in hardware wallet and fingerprint authentication, allowing users to securely store their crypto assets while gaming.
To celebrate the launch, Play Solana has also unveiled a limited non-fungible token (NFT) collection, offering early access and exclusive perks to a group of 2,000 holders.

Solana Expands its Physical Product Offerings
The introduction of the PSG1 is part of Solana’s broader strategy to delve deeper into consumer-facing products. This follows previous ventures such as the Saga smartphone, launched in 2022 by Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs.
Saga, an Android-based blockchain-focused smartphone, provided users with access to native Web3 tools like the Seed Vault, Solana Mobile Stack, and a decentralized applications (DApp) store tailored for the Solana ecosystem. Despite initial mixed reactions, Saga saw a successful launch in 2023, generating excitement among users.
In 2024, Solana Mobile unveiled a second-generation smartphone, known as the Seeker phone, which garnered 150,000 pre-orders and an estimated revenue of $67.5 million. The Seeker phone began shipping on August 5th to over 50 countries.
Web3 Gaming Devices Gain Momentum
In addition to Play Solana’s PSG1, the Sui blockchain network has also ventured into the realm of physical Web3 gaming devices. In 2024, Mysten Labs, the creator of the Sui blockchain, announced the upcoming launch of SuiPlay0X1, a handheld gaming device integrated with the Sui network set to debut in the first half of 2025.
As the demand for blockchain-integrated hardware continues to grow, the intersection of gaming and Web3 technology is poised to revolutionize the gaming industry.
