Argentinian Politicians Brawl at Parliamentary Session Over President Milei’s LIBRA Scandal
Argentinian politicians were involved in a physical altercation during a parliamentary session that was discussing President Javier Milei’s LIBRA scandal. The session abruptly ended before a vote could take place on his impeachment.
Details of the Brawl
The fight erupted between Lisandro Almirón of the ruling La Libertad party and Oscar Zago of the Integration and Development Movement. Almirón allegedly started heckling Zago, accusing him of being a traitor, which led to Zago physically assaulting Almirón. Deputy Rocío Bonacci from the UNITE party also threw a glass of water at Lilia Lemoin, who represents La Libertad, amidst the chaos.
Opposition Leader’s Response
Opposition leader Maximiliano Ferraro has called for an investigation into the incident, claiming that members of the La Libertad party tried to coerce and intimidate others into leaving their seats, thus disrupting the proceedings.
Session Agenda
The session was meant to address various bills related to Milei’s LIBRA scandal, including the formation of a commission to investigate the affair and initiate impeachment proceedings. The vote on instructing an impeachment commission to proceed was about to take place when the altercation occurred, prompting the House of Representatives Speaker, Martín Menem, to adjourn the session.
Legal Action Against Milei and Associates
Prosecutors have already launched an investigation into Milei and his associates, including LIBRA co-creator Hayden Davis, following a lawsuit filed last February. Legal authorities have also requested an Interpol red notice for Hayden Davis, potentially leading to his arrest and extradition.
For more information on the LIBRA scandal, a lawyer alleges that Hayden Davis is the “mastermind” behind the scandal and calls for his arrest.
