London-based payments infrastructure firm Mercuryo has made a significant move by integrating its on-ramp services into Wallet, Telegram’s very own cryptocurrency platform. This collaboration allows Wallet users to easily purchase digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Toncoin (TON) using traditional currencies like the U.S. dollar or euro. The integration of Mercuryo’s services is expected to not only reduce fees but also simplify the process of converting fiat currency into crypto, addressing a major hurdle for new users entering the cryptocurrency space.
Wallet, a custodial crypto service embedded within the Telegram messaging app, enables users to seamlessly send, receive, and store digital assets. With the addition of Mercuryo as the sole on-ramp provider for Wallet, users can now enjoy a more streamlined experience when it comes to on-ramping, making it as easy as sending a message within Telegram. Andrew Rogozov, CEO of The Open Platform, emphasized the importance of this partnership in expanding the accessibility of cryptocurrency to a wider audience.
Rogozov highlighted that a significant number of users are introduced to cryptocurrency through Telegram, with the platform boasting over 100 million users. The integration of Mercuryo’s services aims to make the on-ramping process more cost-effective for users, thereby encouraging more individuals to venture into the world of cryptocurrency.
Petr Kozyakov, CEO of Mercuryo, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that it is designed to onboard millions of new users to cryptocurrency services. The partnership not only benefits existing users but also paves the way for a larger influx of newcomers to the crypto space.
The collaboration between Mercuryo and Wallet supports a range of digital assets, including Bitcoin, Toncoin, and Jettons—an essential token class within Telegram’s ecosystem. Users can access these assets directly through Wallet, eliminating the need for external exchanges. Telegram has been actively expanding its crypto offerings, with the inclusion of the Toncoin native token on The Open Network blockchain being a significant development.
The integration aligns with Wallet’s overarching goal of making cryptocurrency more accessible within Telegram, a platform with a massive user base exceeding 900 million. By providing a seamless and user-friendly experience for buying and storing digital assets, the collaboration between Mercuryo and Wallet is set to reshape the landscape of cryptocurrency adoption within the messaging app.
