29 August 2025 – Tether Announces Update to Transition Plan for Legacy Blockchains
Tether, the leading company in the digital asset ecosystem, has unveiled a revised transition plan for five legacy blockchains: Omni Layer, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS, and Algorand.
Over a year ago, in July 2024, Tether revealed its intention to phase out support for these legacy blockchains by halting redemptions and freezing USD₮ tokens, effective September 1, 2025.
After receiving input from the communities of the affected blockchains, Tether has decided not to freeze the smart contracts on these networks.
Although users will still have the ability to transfer tokens between wallets, Tether will no longer directly issue or redeem tokens on these blockchains. This means that the tokens will not be officially supported like other Tether tokens.
This strategic shift is in line with Tether’s overarching goal of bolstering support for ecosystems with robust developer activity, scalability, and user demand.
Tether is dedicated to facilitating a seamless transition and will maintain open communication with the community to ensure transparency and clarity throughout the process.
