Speaking at the Electronic Cash Conference in Barcelona, eCash founder Amaury Séchet unveiled the timeline for the introduction of “Pre-Consensus,” a feature set to debut during the upcoming network upgrade on November 15.
Avalanche-Style Pre-Consensus Set to Revolutionize eCash on November 15
The highly anticipated Pre-Consensus feature is set to go live on the mainnet as part of the forthcoming eCash (XEC) upgrade, marking a significant milestone in the project’s development. Amaury Séchet made the announcement at the Electronic Cash Conference in Barcelona, providing insights into the objectives and implementation process.
Pre-Consensus will introduce Avalanche-style consensus to eCash, enabling rapid transaction finality prior to block production. This innovative addition is described as the first instance of instant finality on a proof-of-work (PoW) blockchain, with a target confirmation time of three seconds and a focus on reducing the reliance on probabilistic settlement for everyday transactions.
“Pre-Consensus represents a major breakthrough not only for eCash but for the advancement of digital cash technology as a whole,” expressed Séchet during his presentation at the Electronic Cash Conference.
With the implementation of Pre-Consensus, exchanges and services will be able to credit deposits without the need for multiple block confirmations. Key industry players such as Binance, Upbit, Bithumb, HTX, and Coinex are already onboard with eCash’s Avalanche finality, with a public scorecard monitoring integrations and upcoming releases.
eCash is positioned as a hybrid of Nakamoto and Avalanche consensus mechanisms, combining the security of proof-of-work with the efficiency of Avalanche pre-consensus for accelerated settlement. The Avalanche technology integrated into eCash is distinct from the AVAX network and was developed by the Bitcoin ABC team, as detailed in project resources and the official announcement shared with Bitcoin.com News.
The activation of Pre-Consensus is scheduled for November 15, pending successful implementation across compatible nodes. Comprehensive information on instant finality and the Avalanche integration can be found on the project’s website and the service support scorecard, which will be regularly updated as more platforms adopt the feature.
