The beloved mobile game Flappy Bird has made a comeback, this time on the Epic Games Store for Android. However, this latest version of the game does not include any elements of cryptocurrency, despite previous plans to launch a token tied to the now-defunct Telegram version.
The game, which first took the world by storm in 2014, features the classic tap-to-flap gameplay where players must guide a pixelated bird through a maze of pipes. In addition to the classic mode, the Epic Games Store release also introduces a new quest mode, which is described as a “Web-2 only” experience.
According to a statement released about the game’s launch, the Flappy Bird app on the Epic Games Store will remain free of any Web3 elements and will be supported solely by ads and in-app purchases.
Last September, a new Flappy Bird Foundation acquired the trademark to the game and re-launched it as a Telegram crypto game. However, this move was met with criticism, including from the game’s original creator, Dong Nguyen, who distanced himself from the project and stated that he does not support cryptocurrency.
Despite the success of other tap-to-earn games on Telegram, the Flappy Bird version did not gain the same level of popularity. The mining phase for the FLAP token on The Open Network (TON) has ended, and there is no official announcement about a token launch.
The Flappy Bird Foundation’s official account has made it clear that there is currently no official Flappy Bird token or Web3 game. Any claims of such are considered scams. While the Foundation has not ruled out future Web3 initiatives, they have stated that any official announcements will come from their account.
As of now, there is no response from the Flappy Bird Foundation regarding the latest developments. The game’s journey continues to evolve, but for now, Flappy Bird fans can enjoy the classic gameplay on the Epic Games Store without any cryptocurrency elements.
